Investigation into threats leads to pot bust |

Robert Preston, Jr. The Douglas News DOUGLAS — Deputies racked up on arrests following a terroristic threats call at a local convenience store Saturday afternoon. A call came in from the store located at 9432 Highway 32 West alleging that Devin Harper had threatened to shoot the clerk at the store. Harper fled the scene before deputies arrived. While one officer went to the store, others on the road were out looking for the getaway vehicle. |

Bennett receives top award in Washington |

Robert Preston, Jr. The Douglas News DOUGLAS — Amanda Bennett, a rising senior at Coffee High, has been chosen to represent Georgia at February's national meeting of electrical membership cooperatives. Bennett earned the honor on a recent trip to a leadership conference in Washingon, D.C., that was sponsored by the Georgia Electrical Membership Corporation. Teachers nominated four local candidates to attend the conference. Those candidates were then interviewed by Satilla REMC. |

Worrell suspect arrested on DUI charges |

Staff Reports The Douglas News DOUGLAS — One of the suspects in the Doris Worrell murder found himself back behind bars Saturday night following a traffic stop. According to the Coffee County Sheriff's Office, a deputy made a traffic stop on Brandon Eugene Cage, 20 of Douglas, Saturday night. During the stop, the deputy detected the presence of alcohol and conducted an investigation. |
