DOUGLAS — Wendy Moseley, 25 of Broxton, tragically lost her life when the Nissan Altima she was driving left the road on a curve near Wray and crashed into a tree early Tuesday morning. |

Lawmakers finish Farm Bill |

Robert Preston, Jr. The Douglas News DOUGLAS — The conference to put together a new Farm Bill was "long and tough," according to U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss Thursday morning. But what came out of the conference is a very good document that addresses the needs of both farmers/ranchers and taxpayers alike, he said. In a conference call with reporters from Georgia Thursday, Chambliss said the new Farm Bill preserves all the usual titles relative to agriculture. It also includes a $1.5 billion tax package. Chambliss said the 13 titles included in the bill mirror many of the provisions of the 2002 Farm Bill. Marketing loan payments, direct payments and counter-cyclical payments have been preserved. However, Chambliss said that at least this year, he didn't think those payment programs would kick in. "Right now, commodities prices are as high as I can remember," he said. |

Embrace the power of one," said Regent Jim Bishop at Wednesday's graduation exercise at South Georgia College. Regent Bishop, a noted St. Simons attorney who is originally from Alma, delivered the keynote address at the graduation ceremony. He urged the graduates to do more with their degree than get a job. Education opens doors to do so much more, he said. |
